Put all together, the winemakers we work with amount to the most gracious and talented collective I’ve ever spent time with. This is always in the back of my mind, but at a lengthy tasting with Phil Gregory from Vena Cava earlier this week, the notion was in the forefront. A few minutes with Phil reveals quickly his boundless curiosity, quick wit a...nd intellect, and when one gets several hours with him these qualities multiply at every turn. The breadth and style of wines Phil and his team create are some of the most intriguing in the region and representing them is an absolute honor. Always up to something, Phil revealed that he made yet another version of amber wine this vintage and while there is almost nothing production-wise, we got right on it. In addition to the skin contact Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay which are already available in the US through Beso, we will be releasing an amber made from Chenin Blanc as well. I’m not given to this way of thinking often, but this is magical stuff. Looking forward to having it available in the US shortly.
