This is the latest news from Saint Vincent's Home As most of you know we have had an outbreak of distemper among our 300 rescue dogs. The past few weeks we lost a number of puppies and older dogs. IT was imperative that we get all our dogs new vaccines as soon as possible. Some of you were very kind and generous and provided enough money to pay for all the vaccines. Today Friday 18 September 2020 This is an emergency update to our helpers and donors. Someone a long time ago advised me when I write my updates not to say anything that is negative or sad. But I feel compelled to tell our friends that the past few months many of our puppies have been dying and a few large dogs as well. At first we thought it was Parvo virus. But the vet did a snap test this week on one of the dogs and it turns out we have an invasion of distemper. We have b...een losing one dog a day to this disease and there is no medicine to cure it. We have been going the past week with the sickest dogs and puppies to put antibiotics in them to try to stop the infection in them, but it doesnt seem to help. I used all my lunch money to pay for these up front to try to save them. We still have a couple more days to do this and the vet said he wont charge me for the next two days. Now I am trying to get all our remaining dogs that arent sick yet all vaccinated . We will need around 200 of the vaccines for this many dogs. I checked with the vet to see which vaccine we need. This is the one most recommended: *VANGUARD DA2L (DISTEMPER, ADENOVIRUS TYPE 2, LEPTOSPIRA VACCINES) BY ZOETIS LAB. The distributor can provide this vaccine for $113. PESOS, which is a little over $5 USD each. With a modest discount, the total for 200 would be $20,000 PESOS, around $1,000. USD. As you can imagine, I havent a pot 2-P in, so there is no money to get the living dogs vaccinated. If I can get the money together, We can get the vaccines done tomorrow afternoon. The vet said he could come tomorrow. The supplier said they can also provide them tomorrow. So im asking any of our friends who are able to , to help with this emergency if you can. I know the money wouldnt get here till monday or tuesday, but the supplier and the vet would provide the service tomorrow with my promise to pay next week. It has been just so difficult for me to call the crematory every day to send another dog. Thanks to those who will be able to help with this problem. Im very sorry to bring this bad news to you. Today Tubby started walking around, dragging his back leg. It looks like he lost all control of his leg. 5 puppies died last week, two of the fluffy ones on saturday night. One other is sick today. I dont know if its parvo or parasites. I took some of the puppies to another vet a couple weeks ago, but the medicines didnt work, and they wanted too much to treat them for parvo. I was only able to pay for spaying a female chihuahua that was in heat. Several other dogs are thin..., maybe erliquia or something else. I have been giving the last of the medicines I have left. We ran out of food today. Two dogs were attacked and died last week, a little one and a large one both on different nights during the night. Noah and another dog were also attacked but survived and im keeping them upstairs in my boudoir for protection. I thought I would keep you up to date whats going on around here. We need help. With nearly 300 dogs in our care, its very difficult to raise the amount needed to keep them fed each month. Today I make a different request. Since we have reached rock bottom in our financial situation, I am offering for sale a gorgeous antique sterling silver chalice & paten to help pay not only the food but o...ur mounting medical bills for our dogs. The chalice I am offering for sale was made in 1935 by the world famous American silver company Gorham. It is in the Art Deco style all hand made with hand chased Celtic motifs. It comes with a 7" sterling paten and a velvet lined carrying case. I have had this for many years and I would be very happy if it went back into service in a church. It would make an ideal gift to someone who is being ordained to the priesthood. It is suitable for use in a Catholic, Anglican or Lutheran church. It would make a great Christmas gift to your favorite clergy person. Sunday 30 August 2020 www.saintvincentshome.org We are completely out of newspapers. If you live in our area and have some newspapers you could bring us would be greatly appreciated. Among the other things we still need is a reasonably priced veterinarian . The ones we have run into here in the past are either very expensive or incompetent . It would be nice to find a volunteer carpenter to make more small wooden houses for us. We have lots of wood right now, but lack a pe...rson to make the houses. We also need a skill saw or small chain saw to cut the wood. The ones we used to have were destroyed 5 years ago in the arson fire we had here im which two little dogs died. We are always in need of food for our nearly 300 rescue dogs. Bags of kroketas and canned food are needed. Looking for some old cans of house paint, any color to paint our little houses. Other supplies like laundry detergent, bleach, swavitel , clean large blankets, a paint brush or two would be nice.
