In April, it will be 7 years since I decided to seize the opportunity of a long trip to quit smoking. As I was leaving for the airport, someone offered me a pack of cigarettes and a lighter "just in case" I regretted my decision and wanted to smoke during the layover. I did not accept the offer because my plan was to quit smoking and not merely to try. Now, I only need to apply that lesson to about 100 other things. :D ______ En abril se cumplirán 7 años desde que decidí apr...ovechar un viaje largo para dejar de fumar. Some beliefs can help us in certain aspects of life, and we can adopt them as stories that help us persevere and see things from another perspective. Among them is the one presented by the writer Steven Pressfield about Resistance and the Muses. Resistance - with a capital letter - is the villain in the movie of our creative lives. It’s a negative universal force that adapts to the circumstances and does everything in its power to prevent us, through self-sabotage, from doing... our work. The more important the task at hand, the greater the force it exerts to divert us from it. Being aware of the fight gives us some advantage. Defeating Resistance is much more important than having a great talent or anything else. If we overcome it daily and persistently take care of our work, sooner or later, the muse will take note of our dedication and consider us worthy of its favor. _____ Existen creencias que nos facilitan algún aspecto de la vida y que podemos adoptar voluntariamente, aunque sea a modo de historias que nos ayudan a perseverar y ver las cosas desde otra perspectiva. Es una fuerza universal negativa que se adapta a las circunstancias y hace todo lo posible para que, mediante el autosabotaje, no logremos realizar nuestro trabajo. Cuanto más importante es la tarea, mayor es la fuerza que ejerce para desviarnos de ella. Estar conscientes de esta lucha nos da cierta ventaja. Vencer a la Resistencia es mucho más importante que tener un gran talento o cualquier otra cosa.
