These patterns commonly used by weavers in the state of Chiapas (mostly women) are similar to symbols in Guatemalan textiles, because of their shared Mayan cultural heritage. (Chiapas & Guatemala are your thumb-knuckle, if Mexico is your left hand & the Yucatan Peninsula's your thumb.) The SYMBOLS: 1.Universe, Tree, Star, Ceiba (sacred Mayan Tree) 2.
