We're excited for Christopher to be joining us at Mi Futuro in August to begin his University studies in Computer Engineering. Christopher is coming to us from Refugio Mazatlan. He works part-time at Topolos (during tourist season). His English is spectacular (he spent the summer of 2018 in Canada).

........and for our third addition to Mi Futuro, we're excited to welcome Luis David. An aspiring Helicopter Pilot coming to us from Refugio Mazatlan, who has already begun his studies in the theory portion of the program.

Mazatlan is headed for a tough season this year as so many snowbirders are choosing to stay north of the border until things settle down. This will have a devastating impact on our kids and so many of our friends in Mazatlan, so we are going to do everything we can to help! We’re putting together a live streaming event with an old fashioned TELETHON featuring our Gems of Mazatlan Board of Directors & Volunteers manning the phones. From the comfort of your own living room, you’ll have the opportunity to do your part to help out the kids in Maz. In the coming months, details of our fun-filled event will be posted on our website: http://www.gemsofmazatlan.com/ You can also follow us on facebook: https://www.facebook.com/gemsofmazatlan EVENTS & SUPPORT PROGRAMS AFFECTED AND/OR CANCELLED DUE TO COVID THIS SEASON Lupe Cup 2020 (The Gems of Mazatlan General Fund) Lupe Cup 2019 raised $800,000 pesos This fund pays for summer maintenance at Ciudad & Salvation Army, Ortho @ Refugio, Mi Futuro & Salvation Army, special projects required and any other emergency/imminent needs for the kids 2020/2021 PERFORMANCE SEASON - The amazing young people at the Salvation Army Children’s Home raised just over $400,000 pesos last year with their live performances around Mazatlan (including the annual Breakfast with the Kids fundraiser). This money is used each year to pay for electricity, water, fuel for the vehicles, food, school field trips, medical and other day to day needs in raising 32 kids Twisted Mamas collects money each year to purchase and wrap Christmas gifts for these kids and throw them a Christmas party with a visit from Santa Tippy Toes collects money each year to purchase Christmas gifts for the boys at Refugio & Mi Futuro Salvation Army Hot Lunch Program - November through March, 3 days per week, amazing people take an awesome lunch out for the kids this program helps substantially with food costs Divas Unite raises money each year to fund the Quince Celebrations for the girls turning 15 at Salvation Army St Paddy’s Day Annual Fundraiser @ Nicola & Guy’s raised $100,000 pesos last year for operating costs at Refugio Share the Love Tour in support of Mi Futuro Scholarship Fund raised $156,000 pesos last year We would like to send out a million thanks to those of you that have contributed with special thoughts for the kids during this unsettling time If you are unable to join us on December 6th but wish to contribute to our Telethon, you can give me a shout anytime at 403-860-4565 (Canada) Please accept our apologies if you receive this email more than once and don’t hesitate to let us know if you’d like to be removed from our mailing list With indescribable gratitude Pete & Melinda and our awesome Board of Directors at The Gems of Mazatlan

Also, joining us this summer at Mi Futuro is this handsome young man. Javier will be studying at Universadad Autonoma de Durango. He is taking a 4 year program in International Commerce. As he already has English down pretty good, he will be studying French in his third year.
