The sunsets are spectacular in Laguna san Ignacio even when there are no clouds. There are always opportunities for the photographer to take a great shot of the sun setting over the lagoon from the shores of La Freidera. Los atardeceres son espectaculares en Laguna San Ignacio aun cuando no hay nubes. Siempre existen las oportunidades para tomar bellas fotos del sol ocultandose detras del horizonte de la laguna desde La Freidera.

The "Cirio" is perhaps the most representative of all of the Baja California flora. It is Native to the peninsula and only grows in a small area of Sonora outsi...de of Baja California. The Spanish Friars named this plant cirio because of it's resemblance to the Spanish candles used in the times of the Baja colonization. In the first picture the cirio can be seen close to it's northern limit near Cataviña. In the second picture near it's southern limit very close to San Ignacio in the Sierra de San Francisco, a few km from la Cueva del Ratón. De la flora Baja Californiana el cirio es tal vez el más reconocido. Es nativo a la peninsula y solo se encuentra fuera de ella en una pequeña area en Sonora. Los Frailes Españoles lo bautisaron con ese nombre por su semejanza con la vela Española que lleva el mismo nombre. En la primera foto se aprecia el cirio cerca de su limite norte en Cataviña. En la segunda foto cerca de su limite sur a unos kilonetros de la Cueva del Ratón en la Sierra de San francisco.

Death is a part of life not only in Laguna San Ignacio but everywhere on the planet where wild animals roam. On an average year 2 adult gray whales die in Lagu...na San Ignacio and wash up on the shore. Sometimes they wash up very close to town and create a problem for the people who live there. This particular adult female whale was towed to deeper water twice before eventually coming to rest about a mile from town where it decomposed and was reabsorbed into the Laguna San Ignacio ecosystem. It was a tourist attraction for 2 months. It is difficult to believe that a creature this size can be so gentle with us tiny humans in our fragile boats. When we see them next to our boats we are only seeing the tip of the iceberg. La muerte es parte de la vida no solamente en Laguna San Ignacio sino en cualquier parte del mundo donde existen los animales salvajes. Cada año mueren en promedio 2 ballenas Grises adultas dentro de Laguna San Ignacio y encallan en las orillas poco profundas. A veces encallan cerca de el poblado y pueden ser un problema para la población. Esta ballena hembra en particular tuvo que ser remolcada a aguas profundas por varias pangas 2 veces antes de por fin encallar a 2 km del poblado donde lentamente se descompuso y fue absorbida al ecosistema de Laguna an Ignacio. Fue un atractivo turistico durante 2 meses. Es dificil creer como un animal de este tamaño puede ser tan gentil con nosotros y con nuestras fragiles lanchas.

Unfortunatly I don't know who took these pictures but they are excellent. Desafortunadamente no se quien tomo estas fotos pero son excelentes.
