WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOUR COMPUTER CRASHES IN LOS CABOS? Nothing can be worse for someone who writes everyday than to have a computer crash. Last weekend, my Mac...Book Pro decided to quit altogether. No response whatsoever to pushing (and pushing and pushing) the start button. I even tried all of the alternative boot instructions and nothing works. Getting some advice from others who have had their Macs fixed in Cabo, off I went to iStyle in the first small strip mall (Plaza Copan) in Cabo San Lucas across from City Club. I entered with mask on and stood on the socially distanced dots on the floor until I had an opportunity to talk to Alan Santos, the owner. The first question that he asked me was did the computer get wet. I explained that it has been wet but our house is on the beach and my home office is only about 40 feet from the Sea of Cortez. He logged me and and said that he would call me after he had a chance to check it out. Early the next morning he called to let me know that - yes, in fact, the inside connections and mother board were covered by rust. He said that it would be five to seven business days to repair it for a reasonable fee. I begged him to see if he could do it any faster. Three days later Alan called to tell me that my MacBook Pro was ready. He had even changed the A, S, D, E and R keys that had worn so much that couldn't read the letters anymore. iStyle is an authorized Apple reseller and the pricing from them is that same as on the Apple Mexico website. He has even ordered machines from the US so that they are English based. I asked Alan about his background and the business. He was an IT professional for one of the resorts and started the business initially as a side venture in 2008. It became so busy that he left his full-time position to focus on the business. They moved from their original space to the Puerto Paraiso mall and then to their current location. The business has grown steadily since Hurricane Odile. The shop offers Apple computers, iPhones, iPads, IWatch, accessories and software as well as a full range of accessories for cell phones. Thank you Alan for your quick response to my computer crisis. I was so happy to stop borrowing a computer at night to do my work.
