SOLAR SUNDAY - WHAT ARE THE COMPONENTS OF A SOLAR SYSTEM, WHAT DO THEY DO AND HOW DO YOU CHOOSE? This post begins a regular feature on Enjoy Los Cabos Life on ...the design and use of solar systems in Los Cabos. Any custom solar installation includes a number of distinct components in the design and the installation of the system. The first are the solar panels. The solar panels collect the sun and transfer the energy to the inverter. The inverter converts the energy obtained by the solar panels into electricity that can be stored by the batteries. The level of charge that is fed to the batteries is managed by charge controllers. The charge controller ensures that batteries are not overcharged and help to maintain the charge level once they are charged. The batteries or the link to the grid in a hybrid system store the energy or transfer it to the power grid for a credit. In Los Cabos, many of the homes will also have a back-up generator that may either automatically start when the charge level is low and not being refilled by the sun or manually started by the homeowner.
