5 de MAYO We invite you to celebrate Cinco de Mayo with us at Galeria Bellas Artes, San Carlos. On this day many countries worldwide hold festivities to recognize Mexican culture and history. On this day in 1862 General Ignacio Zaragoza led a much smaller Mexican army to defeat the French at the battle of Puebla. The victory boosted the morale of the nation and gained fame. Especially in California where the Mexican community embraced the day making it a holiday since 1863.... It is the one day in the USA, as well as other countries when Mexican art, food and culture is recognized and celebrated. Even though not as much here in Mexico except in the States of Puebla and Veracruz. Mexico has other holidays more significant. Sadly, a year later in 1863 the French came back took Mexico City and put Maximillian on the throne. More beer is consumed in the USA on Cinco de Mayo than Superbowl Sunday or St Patrick´s Day.
