In 2019, Dr. Kuniko Takeuchi was inducted into the United States Judo Federation Hall of Fame in recognition for her positive influence, accomplishments, and le...gacy. Dr. Takeuchi was born in Tokyo, Japan, and grew up in the small town of, Chiba Ken, Japan. She began practicing judo at age 14 in her hometown and began at the Kodokan at the age of 16. From 19621968, she earned her shodan, nidan, and sandan as well as a position on the Kodokan faculty in the women’s section; and for 2 years she was an overall instructor. Dr. Takeuchi was invited to San Juan Judo Club in California and later taught at the Sacramento Judo Club as well as the Kodokan West Judo Club. From 1988-1995, she taught at the Soko Joshi Women’s Judo Club in San Francisco with Fukuda Sensei. In 1995 she began teaching at the Okubo / APOA Judo Club, also in Sacramento, CA. Dr. Takeuchi is a hachidan (eighth-degree black belt), an educator, has been a member of multiple judo committees, and is the recipient of many prestigious awards.
