We delivered two despensas yesterday. The first to Chichimilia to a poor family. Most of the family was hard of hearing plus they did not speak much Spanish. Th...anks to Luis for the translation. And thanks to David for gifting the despensa. This was our first Airbnb Experience despensa. The second despensa was the last of my daughter Sarahs. We had purchased this despensa when Sarah and Emma were visiting Valladolid during school break but ran out of time to deliver it. The despensa went to a woman we know from the market who has been sick and not able to work at the market for many weeks. She has been staying with her daughter (who also works at the municipal market) and we visited her home for the first time. Thank you Sarah and Emma.

"So funny, it was banned in Norway" Monty Python's Life of Brian, also known as Life of Brian, is a 1979 British comedy film starring and written by the comedy... group Monty Python The film tells the story of Brian Cohen a young Jewish man who is born on the same day asand next door toJesus Christ, and is subsequently mistaken for the Messiah. Following the withdrawal of funding by EMI Films just days before production was scheduled to begin, long-time Monty Python fan and former member of the Beatles, George Harrison, arranged financing for Life of Brian through the formation of his company HandMade Films.[4] The film contains themes of religious satire that were controversial at the time of its release, drawing accusations of blasphemy, and protests from some religious groups. Thirty-nine local authorities in the United Kingdom either imposed an outright ban, or imposed an X (18 years) certificate, effectively preventing the film from being shown, since the distributors said it could not be shown unless it was unedited and carried the original AA (14) certificate. Some countries, including Ireland and Norway, banned its showing, with a few of these bans lasting decades. Building its story on a satirical parallel of the life of Jesus Christ, Life of Brian could never have helped drawing fire. But the Pythons knew how to use it: "So funny it was banned in Norway!" read one of the film's posters, and indeed, the Norwegian government put the kibosh on its screenings, as did Ireland's, as did a number of town councils in England. I am sure there are many places in your area where you could volunteer to help others in this time of need. There are families in the small villages that surrou...nd Valladolid that are in even worse shape. Since I have moved to Valladolid in 2006 I have helped deliver despensas (roughly two weeks of food and household essentials). My daughter and her children have visited here during their winter school breaks to purchase and deliver despensas to families in need. What little work many of these families had has dried up. Valladolid has three main sources of income: tourism, education and agriculture. Tourism is currently nonexistent, all schools are closed and the people in the villages survive by growing corn which is planted and harvested by hand. Planting time is not for another two months and they are existing on last seasons corn which has been dried and stored in the kitchen. The virus is just starting to blossom here and will hit the villages very hard. Many cook over open fires in their huts. Their lungs are already compromised. If any of you have some extra dollars to help, I will purchase despensas and deliver them to families in need in the villages surrounding Valladolid. A full despensa costs about USD$50 but we can put smaller donations together to purchase a full despensa. You can send money to me via PayPal as a gift (not a payment) to [email protected].
