Artesanía of the Day Rebozo aka Mexican Scarf Technically rebozoz aren't scarfs, they differ in size and style, but it's easier to remember them as scarfs. Just about all rebozoz are handmade and hand woven, therefore are considered Artesanal.... The beauty about Mexican scarfs is that we have a huge variety from different influences. We have the original rebozo from our native people in the southern part of Mexico. Chiapas and Oaxaca have some of the most colorful and extraordinary rebozoz in the world. There you will find Indian, Caribbean and South American influences with a hint of African. Closer to Central Mexico you will find Spanish influences on the rebozoz. You'll see more simple tie-like styles of rebozoz with more neutral colors. All over México you will find Huichol style colors and patterns but varying through each region. If you go to bigger cities you'll find more luxurious rebozoz designed for "fashionistas". We took something as simple as a scarf and evolved it into something practical, beautiful and fancy. What was only a scarf more could be used as a sweater, hair tool, fashion product, baby carrier, beach towel and the list goes on.
