Because life at the orphanage isn't all fun and games, it's no air conditioning, hand me down clothes, chores, scraped knees, teenagers who talk back, broken hearts, lice filled hair, sad smiles, bread and milk dinners, not enough water for showers everyday, it's explaining to children why their mommies and daddies abused or left them, it's wiping tears, it's sticky hands and stinky feet, it's being able to flexible because every day is completely different. However, there's this indefinable beauty in the daily imperfection, messiness of life, and coloring outside the lines, having the honor of being with these kids is by the far the best thing in my life. I wouldn't trade even one day with them, they've taught me so much about grace, mercy, unconditional love, forgiveness, and joy, they make me a better person. Anna Mishealle

I cried five times the first day of virtual classes. 11 grades, 11 different schedules with 6-7 classes a day (all with different links for each class), live classes, slow internet, printing worksheets for classes, fighting over tablets, turning in homeworks on an app and watching videos and taking quizzes... I was so overwhelmed. ... I went to the bathroom and asked the Lord to give me wisdom. Immediately, I thought of my sweet friends, the Mauldins. They have a saying in their house, Mauldins do hard things. Instead of running from hard things, they teach their kids to lean into it. So I looked myself in the mirror and said, Bethel Orphanage does hard things. I l do hard things and I do it with peace and calm and joy! It’s going to be messy and imperfect and we are gonna make mistakes, but I’m not going to run from this, I’m going to lean in, with JOY and THANKSGIVING! So I declare that the rest of 2020 will be GOOD, it will be a time of joy and laughter and learning. Online school will be FUN! I declare that this isn’t a waste of year, but a year of growth and new harvests and God’s blessings will fall down upon this house. I’m ready! God is my strength and I am ready for this to be our best semester YET!!!

Y’all, we have a huge prayer request! Our internet has been giving us issues for years and I found this company (through family that uses it in remote areas) and it is exactly what we need (even though it’s more expensive but with virtual school, we have to have it), but now the owner isn’t calling me back and it’s stressful since elementary and jr high go back tomorrow. PLEASE pray that the man shows up and installs the internet this week, I’m desperate and am out of option...s !! Pray that the internet we do have works well enough for each group to connect tomorrow. Finally, pray for wisdom and patience and strength as we navigate all this. Thanks, y’all! Love you.
