THIS WEEK IN NACAC 5 October 2020 Past week in brief... Member Federations Member Federations of Belize and St Kitts and Nevis were engaged in discussions with the NACAC leadership during the past week. These discussions were on the initiative of President, Mike Sands, who remains insistent the athletes and the needs of member federations are critical to a successful Area Association. The discussions were quite informative as members of both federations openly expressed their current respective situations at the administrative and technical levels, their particular challenges as well as potential solutions. Critical needs were identified and consideration of ideas in respect of satisfying these needs also formed part of the discussion. The leadership of both the Belize and St Kitts and Nevis member federations expressed appreciation for the approach of the NACAC Council, which saw President sands and General Secretary, Keith Joseph, reaching out to them for one-on-one discussions on matters pertaining to their own well-being and their roles in the development of athletics in the Area and of NACAC itself as an institution 3rd NACAC Gender Leadership Seminar Part 3 On Saturday 3 October 2020, the curtains came down on the three-part NACAC Gender Leadership Workshop. The final session featured presentations by Stephanie Hightower of the USA and Donna Raynor of Bermuda whose presentations were very well received. Participants were impressed with the entre three segments of the programme and appeared sufficiently energised to facilitate an expansion in the number of active Gender working groups in our respective member federations, going forward. NACAC Bid Guidelines Since the submission of the Draft NACAC Bid Guidelines document prepared by the General Secretary, Keith Joseph, the NACAC leadership has begun eliciting critical analyses. Thus far the document has been analysed by a technical support group and several recommendations submitted. THIS WEEK World Athletics and Areas’ leadership Meet On Tuesday 6 October, President Mike Sands and General Secretary, Keith Joseph, will be part of the monthly World Athletics meeting with Area Presidents. This meeting is scheduled for a 7.00am start. It is expected that discussions will focus on the latest official updates on our sport, including an update on the success of the Diamond League and other events that have taken place under the protocols established for our sport under COVID-19. NACAC Executive Meeting On Thursday 8 October 2020, the NACAC Executive will convene at 7.00pm AST (Miami) for yet another of its meetings to discuss the work programme going forward in a period still largely determined by the COVID-19 pandemic. Happily, NACAC continues to plan and seek alternatives in order to ensure that our sport remains very much alive and that our athletes and members remain confident that we remain resilient and committed to retaining our position as the world’s leading sport for individuals. NACAC Information Session #3 On Saturday 10 October, NACAC will host its Information Session #3, designed to update our member federations of what is happening with all aspects of our sport at present and what plans are being planned and implemented currently and in the future. We can assure members that the leadership has not been tardy. We have been consistent in our efforts to take the organisation and our sport significantly forward. Member Federations On Monday 5 October 2020, President Sands and General Secretary Keith Joseph, will continue the planned programme of meeting with member federations individually. Monday will see the NACAC leadership meeting with the member federation of the Turks and Caicos Islands at 10.00am. This will be followed at midday, by a meeting with the member federation of Anguilla. In attendance would be the Chief Executive Officer of Panam Sports, Ivar Sisniega, of Mexico, Marketing Manager of Panam Sports, Alexandra Orlando of Canada and Michael Muller, who works with Panam Sports. Discussions will not be limited to marketing but is expected to include television coverage/live streaming of NACAC events. Tuesday’s meeting is set for an 11.00am start. Much of the focus will be on ensuring that those member federations that have already committed to hosting NACAC Championships in 2021 through to 2023, are appropriately supported. Efforts continue to encourage member federations to bid to host those Championships that are not yet subscribed. Su impresionante total de 7849 puntos en decatlón lo hace merecedor de la tremenda cantidad de aliento que ha estado recibiendo. NACAC tiene la esperanza de que Baptiste continúe convirtiéndose en uno de los mejores productos de nuestra área. Comisión de Atletas de NACAC La miembro del consejo, Cydonie Mothershill ya se ha comprometido con el mandato otorgado por el ejecutivo de la NACAC de trabajar con la Comisión de Atletas a fin de que la organización esté completamente operativa. La ex presidenta de la USATF y miembro del Consejo Mundial de Atletismo, Stephanie Hightower, participará en el seminario del sábado y se dirigirá a los participantes sobre el liderazgo de género. Donna Raynor, jefa del Grupo de Trabajo de Género de NACAC, realizará una presentación sobre Liderazgo. Cydonie Mothersill y Gloria Ramos también serán parte del equipo de coordinación que impartirá el seminario del sábado. Marketing de NACAC El marketing volverá a ocupar un lugar destacado esta semana cuando el presidente de NACAC, Mike Sands, y el secretario general, Keith Joseph, continúen las conversaciones con Panam Sports, así como con otras organizaciones y algunas personas con respecto a la formulación de un plan de marketing integral. En el período posterior a la pandemia, uno no está seguro de la capacidad de respuesta de los patrocinadores tradicionales a nuestro deporte en las Américas. Esto hace que sea aún más necesario que el liderazgo haga todo lo posible para facilitar la sostenibilidad a largo plazo de los programas de competencia y desarrollo del Área. Reunión de calendario semanal En la reunión de esta semana del presidente de la NACAC, Mike Sands, el secretario general, Keith Joseph, y el director de competencias, Michael Serralta, se incluirá un documento de licitación revisado de la NACAC, programada para el miércoles 30 de septiembre a las 10.00 a. M. El borrador del documento de licitación presenta los aspectos administrativos de la licitación para las competencias de la NACAC. Está diseñado para facilitar la comprensión de los requisitos de la competencia y permite una rápida comparación y evaluación de las ofertas enviadas. Programa de aprendices TOECS en español El Programa de Aprendices TOECS para personas de habla hispana que comenzó el 8 de septiembre ha sido particularmente interesante con cientos de participantes directamente en línea los martes y jueves. La cantidad de seguidores en Facebook y YouTube ha sido tremenda, superando los 1000 en cada caso. El programa TOECS Apprentice en español concluye el martes 6 de octubre de 2020.
