AMI Automation signs contract for furnace Optimization System on three EAFs with OEMK. After last year’s successful installation of the complete SmartFurnace EAF Optimization System in Furnace #3, in their facilities located in Stary Oskol, Russia, OEMK signed a contract with AMI to provide this technological package to Furnaces #1, #2, and #4. The AMI system to be installed in three EAFs, consists on the DigitARC PX3 Electrode Regulation and SmartARC for the Electrical Energ...y optimization. The Oxygen, Slag and DRI optimization modules were also included to control the Chemical Energy Input. With up to 70% of DRI in use, the feeding rate and timing becomes crucial to achieve optimal bath temperature and chemistry profile. The goal of the project was to decrease the production cost with a more efficient use of electrical and chemical energy. With the achievement of the project goals in Furnace #3 in 2019, OEMK and AMI reached an agreement to extend the installation to the rest of the furnaces in the facility, a project that is scheduled to start during the Summer of 2020 and continue until the beginning of 2021 when the works in all three furnaces are completed. With the restrictions due to the State of Emergency put in place in Japan after the arrival of the AMI specialists in the country for the installation of our system in Tokyo Steel Okayama and Kyushu plants, a new action plan had to be devised together with the c...ustomer to continue the commissioning of the AMI Furnace Optimization system. Attending the social distancing guidelines, Tokyo Steel supplied the necessary equipment to build a laboratory for integration and testing of the new AMI system in the hotel room of our specialists, where the work has continued since then. In AMI we put our efforts to fulfill the needs of our customers particularly in these challenging times, by using the latest technology and relying on the talent of our people.
